Washington County: One Community
Citizens devoted to positive communication across our county, demonstrating, celebrating and promoting success.
How do you increase the sense of community and connectivity within Washington County and improve communication?
That question is being addressed by a diverse group of dedicated individuals, representing entities and communities from across Washington County. Each group member has been appointed to serve on the committee by the Washington County Commissioners. Their charge is to not solicit new studies of Washington County, rather to combine pertinent information already available, that helps direct our own future in Washington County.
Washington County made a bold statement when they decided to apply for the Harness the Wealth program as an entire county and not a single community. The challenge was set to see if the local leaders truly can increase knowledge of each other, our trust in one another, and our awareness of our interconnectivity and shared values. The goal is to see Washington County as one community, as our community.
History supports the strong will, practicality and independence of Washington County residents. It is what drives the entrepreneurial spirit of many in down east Maine. One can hardly imagine the possibilities if this spirit could be harnessed from its various locations throughout Washington County and unified as one consistent message. This deliberate communication between public and private sector institutions will only foster a greater sense of the strengths and needs of Washington County. Collaborative efforts will help Washington County address the needs of its residents, businesses and visitors.
The project includes a significant public outreach effort with the focus on the positive message of community building and a look towards our future. We are working together by sharing ideas and experiences, and strengthening our practice of better communication.
We need you to participate, and to help determine the direction of development for your community.
