The Rural Caucus of the Maine State Legislature
The Rural Maine Caucus was created within the Legislature to form a cohesive organization that:
- Represents the center of the spectrum in the Maine State Legislature;
- Can appeal to rural mainstream values in the public;
- Would develop proposals and positions as they relate to rural Maine;
- Is independent of the leadership of either party;
- Is able to influence the legislative process collectively.
The Caucus has briefings on issues of concern to rural Maine and discusses whether there is a position or other action that should be taken as a group. The Caucus bylaws are available online.
During the session, the Caucus meets at 8:00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Transportation Committee room at the State House. To the extent possible, topics for Caucus sessions will be posted on our events calendar.
