Maine Rural Partners : Stengthening Our Rural Community

Federal Agency Network

Thanks to our willing federal partners, MRP is breaking new ground (first in the nation) by building a cross-agency federal network. FedNet, an on line clearinghouse and communications vehicle for federal employees and their programs, will enable Maine’s federal agencies to find collaborative opportunities for improved service delivery at both the micro and macro scales.

Completion of the FedNet on-line infrastructure is anticipated in the Spring of 2007. Then federal agency liaisons will begin to coordinate the engagement of their agency personnel in joining and using the Network.

With the Network up and running, federal employees will be able to search for and communicate with colleagues regarding shared goals and responsibilities. The public will benefit from greater access to federal resources via MRP’s searchable federal program library and grant deadline calendar – as well as from the more efficient and effective use of their tax dollars.

Over 30 federal agencies have already agreed to participate. Network co-chairs are Mark Hews of the Natural Resources Conservation Service RC&D Program and Michael Aube, State Director of USDA-Rural Development. Special thanks go to Maine’s Congressional Delegation and their staffs for supporting establishment of MRP’s Federal Network.
